Ah, to be young again.....
Anyway, I just thought I'd throw out a couple reminders of some fun blog hops that I'll be hopping around to in the next few days.
The first is coming up this Friday, the 15th. Mark Koopmans is hosting his second "Got Green Blogfest". All the pertinent info as well as sign up, HERE and it looks to be a lot of fun. The premise is simple....just explain how you get your "Irish" on...that's it. The stories can be real or imagined and, being of Cherokee Indian and German descent, my story will, more than likely, be imagined :)
It should be a fun one, so sign up and give Mark K. a virtual kiss....he's Irish...I think...
The other hop, coming up on Monday, the 18th is hosted by the Ninja Captain himself, Alex J. Cavanaugh and it's another straightforward and fun hop, especially if you like movies.....which I do! You can find the info and sign up linky HERE . So, your mission...if you should decide to accept it (and you should)...is to mentally round up your top ten favorite films and report in with our Captain on Monday. It should be a lot of fun.
Something else I've been thinking about as I hop around the blogosphere...and this idea might serve me better as next month's IWSG posting....but, I've been thinking if, mabye, I'm too lowbrow for this writing thing.
I won't go into the particulars here, but sometimes I just get the feeling that the life of a writer seems more complicated than I anticipated. Not that I plan on quitting writing or anything like that....I enjoy it too much..., it's just that I consider myself a pretty un-complicated guy and that's how I like to live.
I don't know....I guess I'll have to think more on it and, like I said, it might wind up being my IWSG post for next month....we'll see.
I know it's not Monday, but I'll throw in a little bit of Surf Music to help you get over the Hump. Here's the 'King of the Surf Guitar' himself, Dick Dale, doing his rendition of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
Have a great Wednesday!

Only complicated if you think about it too much!
Thanks for mentioning my blogfest.
And sorry, I'm not kissing Mark.
Looking forward to those fests! And don't worry too much about the writing thing, just write!
Nothing wrong with being an uncomplicated guy, Mark! I don't think it's the actual writing that is complicated but everything that goes with it!
Kids are fun! I'm looking forward to the blogfests!!
I don't think there's anything wrong with looking at it from that perspective. A writer's life does seem like a complicated thing. :P
I'm looking forward to the top ten movies blogfest :)
Hi Mark,
Um, blogfest, blog hops. Although I know a lot of folks seem to get a lot of interaction out of them, I think I'd rather go to a Justin Bieber concert :) What am I saying. Seriously I do wish all well to those who get involved in them.
Writing, to me is the simplest thing. Not putting too much pressure on yourself or living up to unrealistic expectations, is, I believe a vital element. Writing, should be done in small workable goals, leading to the big goal.
Take care, I'm going now.
Gary :)
Like Alex said it's only complicated if you let it be. The only thing you need to do is write a good book. Yea, critiquing, beta reading and blogging do take up time and are good parts of writing but in it's essence, being a writer is simply writing.
I am guilty of overthinking things too!
I still don't have my Top 10 sorted out for Monday... Gah.
Aw, Ghost Riders in the Sky. I love that song and this version you posted is a nice listen to hear it done differently. When it comes to writing no matter the complication, it's the love of writing that keeps you going. And I'm in those two hops as well.
You do seem pretty easygoing, but so does your writing--super fun and fast paced. So, whatever issues you have going on in your brain, they aren't showing up in your writing. When I'm stressed over my writing, or the details that swirl around it, my words get all tight and restricted. I look forward to reading your IWSG post. Maybe everybody can hash it all out for you. :)
Mark
You must be feeling a little overwhelmed with young girls cosmetics all over your bathroom.Ha
I think you're just great, although I'm not a writer.
I do the A-Z but don't get too involved in most blog hops. I'm with Klahanie. Blog hops don't leave you time to do your own creative thing.
@Alex: A very good point and, maybe, I'm over thinking things and always glad to mention great hops :)
@Tyrean: Me too and, yep, that's what I just need to do and not worry about the rest :)
@Suzanne: I think you have a point there...very true.
@Tammy:Same here, they should be fun!
@Golden Eagle: Heh, well, I hope I'm wrong in my thinking....or 'over' thinking of it :)
@mshatch: Ditto...it should be a lot of fun :)
@Gary: You're in luck! I have a few extra Justin Bieber tickets I'm sending your way..just -don't- ask where they came from :P Take care, my friend!
@S.P: You're right...especially about the 'good' part :)
@Robin: There's still time, but same there...so many to choose from!
@Sheena: That's one of my favorite versions, next to Johnny Cash. Great stuff :) You're right, as well, the other things are just secondary compared to just loving writing. I need to focus on that.
@Celeste: Thank you and we'll see about that post after I give it more thought...or less thought...whichever :)
@Manzanita: Luckily, they're in the guest bathroom so I don't have to deal with it, lol. Thanks, I appreciate that! I enjoy the occasional hop and, mainly, to find new people I might not have found otherwise. Too many can wear on you, though..
Your words have a scaly hint in them. I understand exactly what you mean. You know what's the most ironic side of it? That sometimes, he who likes simple, usually has a strong tendency to think too much, bringing complications to his life. I like simple too and I do overthink things. I see writing is easy if you write for the love of it. I see it is WAY complicated if you write to become a published author.
These blog hops sound like a lot of fun. I know I'm signed up for alex's but hey I'm Irish so I'd love to do Mark's.
whats so complicated?
you write, you get feedback, well editing is complicated & easy to worry about, i guess
and query letters are a conundrm...
i guess i just dont dwell on things. i like flowcharts, maybe i will map out writing process scientifically
maybe its more complicated than i thought too!
Mark-my kids are part Cherokee and German too. (On my husband's side) But they also get to be part Irish, English and Italian from me. They are like little melting pots. LOL
Looking forward to those blog hops and your next IWSG post- I know whatever you come up with will be great!
Looking forward to the bloghops! I hadn't heard of the movie one, so thanks for the head's up--I'm going to have to check it out!
I'm excited for these hops. And I totally hear you on the lowbrow thing. Some of my crit partners are f-ing amazing and know everyone and every book on the craft and have crazy dramatic life stories. Sometimes I feel like I must be the mascot or something. If you like to write, that's all that matters.
Should be some fun blog fests! Looking forward to checking them out. Have a great day :)
Thanks for the song. It was always one of my favorites, but I haven't heard it for awhile :)
The movie blogfest... Yeah!
Greetings from a tiny village in north Wales
Best
John
Too low brow, eh? I don't think you should WORRY about that. I think you should figure out an angle to WORK IT. I think you can set yourself apart in a lot of ways.
I know I actually had a decision point: professional writing demeanor versus goofball... I chose goofball... it's low brow. But it's also me. And it's a domain on which I can compete a lot better--there are A LOT of great professional writers. There are only so many people who can work goofball.
Thank you for reminding me about Alex's hop. I almost forgot. Have a great weekend. :)
Can't wait to read your Irish post...I'm in this and the movie hop, so we'll be bumping into each other a few times, I'm sure. Happy Friday, Mark:)
Oh, I loved hearing Ghost Riders! It has been ages and it's still beautiful and stirring. Brought back some memories. Thanks.
