Random Ramblings

What does the picture above have to do with this post? Nothing,I just like it :)

I really enjoyed Monday's blog hop and want to thank Alex J. Cavanaugh, again, for hosting. It was a great time and I was reminded of a lot of movies that I hadn't thought of for a long time.

You guys had some great top ten lists, for sure.

I'd also like to thank all of you who stopped by and commented. I apologize if I didn't get back to everyone and, if I didn't make it to your list, please don't be offended...I gave it the old college try (because I went to an old college).

Anyway, not much going on today and I'll probably keep things brief after Monday's festivities so here goes...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I mentioned on Friday about Google Reader going the way of the dodo on July 1st and that I was looking into some alternatives. I checked a few out and a couple of them looked decent, but had a limit on how many blogs you could follow...which wouldn't work for me. Another wanted you to pay and the other wasn't taking any new accounts.

So, I decided to give one of the best of the free readers (in my opinion) a shot.

I've been using Feedly for about four or five days and have had pretty good results. It's pretty user friendly and imports all your subscriptions with just a few clicks. After some finagling, I managed to get it looking like the Google Reader template (if that's what you're going for), but you could also configure it a few other ways, too.

If you're a Chrome user, it also has a little, handy dandy, extension for your convenience.

Now, I'm not married to this reader (my wife wouldn't like that) so if you know of something that works better and is free, please let me know!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other "news", I saw this on Google Plus (see, you should be using it!) and thought it was pretty cool. It also ties in with Monday's blog hop as a lot of people had Star Wars (or sequels) in their top ten.

The cast of the Star Wars films, spanning the six episodes. I don't think I've seen the kid who played young Annakin since he did the film.

Small gripe here, besides them including Jar Jar ahem, but I think Lucas should be sitting on the other side by Fischer, Ford, and Hamill. I mean, that's where it all started so it only makes sense.

Right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Friday's I've been trying to do a post for The Healthy Writer's Club, which I think is a fantastic idea and want to stay on board with. Last Friday, though, I purposely excluded doing an entry because I hadn't really done anything of note and didn't want to post excuses as to why I hadn't done anything of note.

This Friday, though, I'll have something pretty cool to talk about relating to THWC so tune in then for the skinny....figuratively speaking, of course :)

I agree - Lucas should be with the originals.
Feedly is really cool! Yes, I configured mine to look like Google Reader for now. Makes it feel familiar and easy.
Glad you had a good time with the blogfest! Thanks again for commenting on so many.

That has to be like the greatest, coolest poster I've seen! Great discovery!

Lucas should totally be with the originals as the prequels do not count as films for me. I prefer to wipe them from brain. :)

I had lots of fun with the fest and so many of my films made others lists too which was awesome.

Greetings, my human friend, Mark,

Yes, it's me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! Neither my human or myself have ever had the need to use Google Reader. We have the reading list and we also have, like you have, a bunch of blogs on our sidebar we check out. So, I'm not sure what I need to change, if anything. However, your meticulous detail is appreciated. Thanks for that.

That poster is awesome. May the farce be with you! :)

Pawsitive wishes,

Penny :)

That picture is really cool. Had a blast at the movie hop, but in the same boat - college try...my college is old too:) Looking forward to Friday's post.

@Alex: Oh yeah, I'm not big on change so being able to make it look like Google Reader is great :) Thanks, though I sometimes felt like I wasn't visiting enough. It was a great hop and I had a good time :)

@Al: Thank you and glad to pass the Star Wars goodness on!

@Melissa: I'm with you there, for sure :)

@Penny(Gary): You're wise beyond your years and would have made quite the Jedi :)

@M.J: Agreed...I always like pics like that. I saw one of The Princess Bride around, somewhere, that was pretty cool.

That is a cool poster!

I have been eyeing Feedly as well. I tried talking to the hubby about it even though he knows nothing about any of it. I only get deer in the headlights from him. So, that probably means Feedly is a good choice. LOL!

You snooze you lose. And Darth Vader is practically right behind Lucas. I think a certain new generation made a deal with the dark side...but hey, they got George Lucas to sit in their area so...I guess it's win win. Even if they sold their souls. *Evil laugh*

I'll try that alternative reader you spoke about and Alex's blogfest rocked my socks off.

@Mel: LOL...I get that exact same look from my wife, so I can sympathize! And, yes, it's a very cool poster...just something I found on one of my many image searches :)

@Sheena: I know! It looks like Vader has his evil grip on Lucas and it's the only explanation for him creating a character like Jar Jar :D

I'm mainly on Chrome and do like the feedly extension. But I'm having a hard time organizing it to my liking. I guess I just need to keep tweaking . . .

Mark Means said...

@Elise: Yeah, I think some tweaking is definitely going to be in order to get it just how you want it. I'm still fiddling with it... :)

I agree with you. Lucas should be over there with the Originals. What's up with that?

Lucas is next to Yoda though which is a good spot.

Going to check out Feedly soon. I'm happy with how things are, so if it emulates Google Reader that'll work for me!

The last three Star Wars movies were awful.

I have Feedly now although I haven't used it much.
