The Daring and the Dastardly!

Usually, I'm not a "Thursday" poster but this was one blog fest I just had to join. Hosted by Dani and Jackie, the goal is simple....just post your favorite Heroes and Villains and why you enjoy their heroic/villainous tendencies.

I'm going to have to rein myself in, here, because I could probably name dozens on each end of the spectrum. The ones that pop into mind, immediately are:

Heroes:

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes: (Consulting Detective)

Abilities: Keen, deductive mind. Almost photographic memory for soil, tobacco, and the workings of the criminal mind.

Why they're heroic: Willing to risk his life to bring criminals to justice, out of sense of duty as well as a cerebral challenge.

Captain America
Captain America: (Steve Rogers) World War II Super Hero

Abilities: Enhanced physical attributes via Super Soldier process. Superb hand to hand combatant. Excellent military strategist.

Why they're heroic: Willing to risk his life in defense of his country or to save a life.

Indiana Jones
Dr. Henry (Indiana) Jones, Jr. Freewheeling Professor of Archaeology.

Abilities: Historical scholar, expert on archaeology and occult practices. Also snaps a mean bullwhip.

Why they're heroic: Would risk life and limb in the pursuit of knowledge and to preserve rare antiquities.

Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime: (Leader of the Autobots)

Abilities: Possessor of the Matrix of Leadership that helps guide his decisions to lead. Can shape shift into an eighteen wheel truck as well as wield 'futuristic' energy weapons.

Why they're heroic: Would sacrifice himself for an innocent life...human or Autobot. Also willing to make tough decisions for a just cause.

Benton Fraser and Diefenbaker
Constable Benton Frasier (Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer)

Abilities: Deductive mind and an almost uncanny ability to communicate with his deaf wolf companion, Diefenbaker.

Why they're heroic: Come on, he's a Mountie!

Villains:

Hans Gruber
Hans Gruber:(Terrorist/Criminal Mastermind)

Abilities: Well versed in American Intelligence protocol, a quick thinker, highly organized.

Motivation(s): Greed

Doctor Doom

Victor Von Doom: Ruler of Latveria/Would be World Conqueror.

Abilities: Scientific genius rivaling such greats as Tony (Iron Man) Stark and Reed (Mr. Fantastic) Richards. Expert in the occult as well as other dimensions

Motivation(s): Rescue mother who is trapped in an alternate dimension, protect the people of Latveria and the world by ruling them all. Doom believes his rule is humanity's only hope.

Count Dracula
Vlad Tepes Dracula: Transylvanian Aristocrat

Abilities: Immortality, can change into a bat, wolf, rat or mist. Can hypnotize the 'weak willed'. Can only be killed by a steak to the heart or decapitation.

Motivation(s): He vants to suck your blood!

Professor Moriarty
Professor James Moriarty:Napoleon of Crime

Abilities: A shrewd, deductive mind rivaling that of Sherlock Holmes.

Motivation(s): Greed and power.

Darth Vader

Darth Vader: (Annakin Skywalker) Lord of the Sith

Abilities: Expert pilot and wielder of The Force.

Motivation(s): Serving the Emperor and conquest of the galaxy....then, redemption.

So, there you have it....my Heroes and Villains roster. How about you? Who are some of your favorites?

'He vants to suck your blood!'

This made me chuckle.

'Serving the Emperor and conquest of the galaxy....then, redemption.'

This made me officially in love with this great, great post.

@Suze: Awww...thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it :)

Darth Vader and Dracula are top notch villains. I love your hero list, you went all the way picking all kinds. Whether they had super powers or not. Glad you took part in this and I'm doing the Aberration Hop today.

Great list you have here! My hero and villain of choice (scheduled for posting in about at an hour) are both in your list.
And holy smokes, is that Snape? From which movie is that? Haha.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Hans Gruber! Excellent choice.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

I loved Captain America. The movie was my favorite of the individual ones. I love the purity and heart of the character.

Mark Means said...

@Sheena: Thank you, I was trying to get a good mix :) I'll have to check out your hop, as well :)

@Dee: Haha...are you trying to make me feel old(er)? :P Yep, that's the great Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber from the original "Die Hard" film. A great villain. Looking forward to your post, too.

@Alex: Thank you...he was the first villain that sprang to mind.

@Diane: Same here and he really embodies the spirit of America.

Great choices indeed! I love the wide selection and I also love that I kow them all. Thanks again for joining!

Superb Heroes and dastardly villains! I actually forgot about Benton with as a Canadian Ranger. And Hans Gruber freaked me out. He's wholly an aberration! Great Post.

Sophie Duncan said...

Benton Frazer! Wow, he's a blast from the past. Never was there a more heroic hero:)

I picked Vader as one of my favourite villains as well, he's just so merciless! I'd have picked The Sheriff of Nottingham as my villainous incarnation for Alan Rickman, but Hans Gruber is another truly vicious role as well.

Nice selection.

Dude- great job here! So many awesome heroes and villains to choose from, especially after your contribution to the A-Z challenge. Of course, I'm still partial to one superhero with claws...that goes without saying. But there are so many to choose from it is hard to narrow it down and pick one!

I like your list, especially the hero one. Although, I keep forgetting that Indiana's real name is Henry. I can see why he calls himself Indiana. It just doesn't have the same effect to introduce himself as Henry.

Moriarty, he's one of my all time favourite villains.

What a great list Mark! I wouldn't have Frasier, but he fits! I didn't know Doom's mother is trapped in an alternate dimension.

Laura Clipson said...

Got Vader on my list, a lot of villains seem to do it all for a bit of power.

So many memories of so many movies. lol Saw Brides of Dracula with my sisters, and it was hilarious. XD

Also, the Last Crusade played all day when I was on a Band/Chorus trip. My friends and I spent the trip saying "Jr.!" and "Indiana." lol

Great choices, all, Mark! Really a man after my own heart. Especially with indy (swoon) and Optimus Prime- badass that Transformers made an apperance in a list.

And Vader? Oh yeah, Vader is ultimate evil.

Thanks so much for introducing yourself today and really, really great choices!

Benton Frasier! I used to love Due South, thanks for reminding me of it.

Surprisingly, this was the first time I've seen Darth Vader. But I haven't read everyone's post yet. You've got some great classic choices here. Writer’s Mark

I love your choices :). I'd have to agree with all of them and I love you included Benton Fraser :). Hans Gruber - now there's a truly great villain and you have Dracula in there as well (I'm always there for the vampires ;)). Great list.

Happy weekend to you, Mark! :)

Nice post!

Great choices! I think Dracula is pretty great, too.

Have a nice weekend. :)

Great choices. Darth Vader was a great villain precisely because you suspected there was humanity and compassion deep within... or was there...

Of yours, my favorite hero is Indiana Jones. Villain is a toss up between Darth Vader and Hans Gruber. But I think Vader wins.

I love your list. I choose Bumble bee from the transformers and Darth Vader. No doubt.

Hi Mark,

One moment please...Argggghhhhhh!!! Not another blog fest!! Phew, that's better.....

Okay, sorry about that.

Of course, eh, The Mounties always get their man.

And definitely, 'Daft Vader', is a villain! May the farce be with you, Mark.

What next, a bubblegum music blog fest. Yikes, don't give them any ideas, Gary.

Take care, friend.

Gary :)
