IWSG: September, 2014

The IWSG is the brainchild of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh and is a forum for writerly types to vent their fears/frustrations/problems with writing and publishing, among other things. This month's co-hosts are Mark (Melvin) Koopmans, Sheena Kay Graham, Laura, and Shah Wharton. Drop by and send them all some love, won't you?

Ever have too much of a good thing?

You know what I'm talking about.....it's like eating too much ice cream and getting an 'ice cream headache' or drinking enough coffee to cause you to tremor more than the San Andreas Fault.

That's sort of where I'm at in my writing, now. When it rains, it pours.

Not so much with my blogging (sorry about that), but with story ideas. I'll be chugging along with one idea and then, BAM!, another will pop into my head. Or I'll start coming up with dialogue between characters I've yet to create. I'm sure this isn't strange for some, but it's not how my writing process usually goes.

Maybe it's time to embrace that change?

Even though life does it to me, all the time, I'm not that great with change. I like routine, I like order, I like predictable. I'm not the most spontaneous sort. I think those are some of the reasons that I enjoy writing.....it's a process and I have my own little routine.

And that could be my problem. Maybe I'm too entrenched in my routine to be fluid enough for writing?

It's something I'll need to think on and investigate more but, in the meantime, I'm going to ride the "bolt" for as long as I can :)

Enjoy it! That never happens to me.

Just make sure you get lots of notes jotted down while the ideas are flowing and the characters talking to you, so that you can go back to them later. Have fun :)

I have wicked ADD so this is pretty much how I roll on the day to day. LOL My kids are forever yelling at me to FOCUS!!! (Especially when we are out a store) All kidding aside, I keep a notebook and a special folder designated in my computer for all of my ideas/dialogue and general plots or characters that come to me. I have stuff in there I might never use, but at least it's there, in case I need it.

Enjoy the bolt! I will have those days. I will start writing and not want to quit. My hubs would arrive from work and I'd still be in my pj's and not at all ready to quit. He's a patient man.

Oh and speaking of coffee- McDonalds had those iced coffees any size for 1.00. I was jittery for a week!!

Would you like to try a life of chaos? You can come live mine. I have no routine. But I do have some fun ideas.

Sounds exciting! Go with the flow, the ideas are hassling you for a reason :)x

Yes you should! Ride that bolt! Write it ALL down. You can always come back to it later. My first published novel came to me in the middle of a piano concert. I wrote the basics down in the dark. I didn't actually start working on that story for a year. But I had it. And when I was ready, it was there for me to pounce on! Say Yes to the bolt!

It's great that the words are flowing for you. Enjoy it!

Agree with Lisa. Write it all down. You can revisit it later. Ideas are good things. :)

IWSG #179 until Alex culls the list again.

That's probably why I'm a non-linear, not plotting writer. I like to follow those bolts and see where they lead. The good thing is that they lead somewhere fun, and they all connect in the end. Generally.

I always find I have more ideas when I'm working on something else, especially if I'm having a hard time working on what I am working on. I, too, like order, but sometimes we have to see where these ideas will take us.

I know the feeling! Sometimes I have so many ideas swimming around in my head that I end up not working on any of them, just because I can't choose!

I find that the best thing to do during those inspired phases is to take as many notes as possible! If only there was a way to bottle the inspiration for the less-inspired times. :)

I have an idea and notes folder where I store all of that stuff so that I don't get derailed.
At least, not too much.

I'm a little bit having the same problem, especially having recently discovered some cool websites that list all sorts of awesome calls for submissions and competition prompts. Ideas can be overwhelming :)

I say go for it and enjoy the bolt! Here's hoping those ideas just keep coming.

I agree that it's hard to embrace change sometimes, but it's always worth the effort. Enjoy the bolt and hope you have a wonderful Thursday buddy!

I'd say that you should grab a few buckets and collect all the ideas you can, while it's still raining. Enjoy it!

awesome! you ride that bolt, man!

I know I'm late, but here's my opinion. If words are coming to you, WRITE THEM DOWN! Then write some more down... That's all. Finally, you'll write The End, and start all over again :-)
