Reality Check / Music Monday

One of the (many) cool things about blogging is when people read and comment on what you have to if you've made some sort of....connection, with your audience.

What's even cooler is when someone thinks your blog is deserving of praise and/or accolades.

So, imagine my surprise when my blogger pal jaybird (you all do know jaybird....right?), over at The Bird's Nest, graciously bestowed upon me and my humble little blog, the Reality Award.

Now, I think the way this one goes is that I'm supposed to answer a few questions and pass it on to three others I think are deserving....which isn't going to be easy as I follow a ton of great blogs.

So, on to the questions....

If you could change on thing, what would it be?

I would have scrounged some money together to invest in a little company called Microsoft when it first went public, back in 1986 (the year I graduated high school) like $21.00 a share!

If you could repeat an age, what would it be?

I could say something like "I hate repeating myself.", but that's totally not true. Anyone who knows me and has heard my jokes can attest to that. Still, though, I think I'd have to say my early 20s, where I would have finished college.

What one thing really scares you?

Flying in an airplane. I get nervous just going to the airport to pick up/drop off people. Truth.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be?

Indiana Jones, because I hate snakes and Nazis too!

O.k, for the three people I'm choosing for this one, I'll go with....

1. Elise Fallson-- Funny, a bit silly (in a good way), and passionate about writing.

2. Sydney Aaliyah-- A great blogger with a superb sense of community.

3. Celeste Holloway-- Always upbeat and positive and a real pleasure to read.

I always look forward to updates from these three ladies as well as the comments they leave. If you're not familiar with them, already, then do yourself a huge favor and check them out...I promise you won't be disappointed.

Thanks, again, to jaybird for thinking of me...I really appreciate it!

Music Monday

For my Music Monday offering, today, I'm going with a suggestion from a comment last Monday via Celeste Holloway ( what are you waiting for? check out her blog, already!). Celeste mentioned The Oak Ridge Boys, who also happen to be one of my all time favorite country groups.

Way back in the my early teens...I was a huge country music fan. While the genre has gone through a few changes today, back then it was all about twangy, steel guitars and great harmonies. I remember, literally, wearing out the  Oak's 'Greatest Hits' cassette when I was young.

This, above them all, is my favorite song of theirs.... Y'all Come Back Saloon

Have a great Monday and, if you can't...don't worry, it'll be over soon :)

Aw the cassette. I actually won a mixtape in a giveaway last year. Congrats on the award, we all love receiving praise and comments that lead to a connection while blogging are just wonderful.

Thanks for commenting on my blog and I actually added a meme I'd forgotten.

I'm with you on not repeating yourself. I don't think I would ever want to go back to where I've been. I'm only looking forward to what's coming.

Congratulations on the award! I'm with you on the flying part.

congratulations, Mark! That badge looks well here. :D

It was fun learning more tidbits about you. Congratulations to those three fabulous ladies.

I think you & my dad would have lots of fun making mix tapes together, hehe.

Investing in Microsoft... hahaha. Everyone would have liked to make that call!!!!

I wasn't in to country back in the 80s, but the Oak Ridge Boys have such a distinct sound that I would have known them anywhere... even though I didn't know that song. They had such great harmony with one another. What a blend.

Love Indiana Jones. It really doesn't get better than Harrison Ford!!

Who wouldn't want to be Indiana Jones?

Very nice award.

I don't mind flying but I'm not too thrilled with take offs and landings.

Love the Indiana Jones answer!

@Sheena: You're welcome and, yeah, I think everyone who grew up around the 80s will never forget the "Mix Tape"...great stuff :)

@Suzanne: I totally agree, thanks!

@S.P.: It does make things easier, for sure.

@Alex: Thank you and I used to get pretty bad motion sickness so planes and me have never gotten along.

@Al: Thank you, Your Dragonship!

@Nicki: Well, if he grew up in the 80s, I have no doubt :)

@Robin: Yes, I agree...they had such a smooth sound :)

@Valerie: Hey there, thanks for stopping by and the comment ;) Indy was awesome, agreed!

@Diane: My point, exactly! :)

@LD: Well, I guess that's a good way of looking at it. Like they say, it's not the fall that kills's that sudden stop at the end :)

@Christine: Hehe, thank you!

Hey Mark,

Well done you, my human friend, for receiving "The Reality Blog Award". And great you forwarded in onto three of my starstruck fans! :)

Actually, I'm a 'pawlet' with the blogging communities favourite airline "Blog Air". I would put you at ease and I'd get you to sit beside on of those bloggers with like a zillion followers. They can tell you how wonderful they are. You will get so bored that you fall asleep :)

Yee ha! The "Oak Ridge Boys"!

Pawsitive wishes,

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)

Mel Kinnel (@TizMellyMel) said... cassettes. I remember them oh so well. LOL!

Misha Gerrick said...

Yeah... I would have loved to invest in Microsoft way back then too. Except it was two weeks before I was born. :-/

Mark Means said...

@Gary: Penny, you sound like you have thing well in, paw..when it comes to flying. I'll say 'I knew her when'...after you hit true, internet, superstardom :)

@Mel: Haha, yes back in the "Old" days :D

@Misha:, I -really- feel old :P

I'm an on again off again country fan. Some of the modern artists are kind of cross genres but those Oak Ridge Boys could really sing.
I'm a bit afarid of airports too. They're like crazy mini cities.

Gina Gao said...

Unlike you, I actually really like being in airplanes. I guess its just a thing that I have for traveling through air.

Indiana Jones? Great answer. :)

Congrats on your well deserved award! Indiana Jones would be a fun character to live. I'm sorry about the fear of planes. I can't quite relate, because I love flying, especially in the smaller planes, but I have my own fears (deep ocean water and Grand Canyon type cliff heights) so I know how paralyzing that kind of fear can be.

That was a fun trip down music memory lane for me. :) I don't listen to country much anymore, but there have been a few phases in my life when I did . . .it's kind of interesting how it can come and go.

What fun! Congratulations on your award. I would have loved to have gotten in on Microsoft too. If only...

Good choice on picking Indy - he'd be the most badass of heroes to be for a day :)

Ella said...

Congrats Mark :D
Indie is a great choice-sorry about the flying~ Driving across country is always fun though~

Fun to learn more about you!

Wow, thanks, Mark. I feel the same way about you and your blog. If this was an awards show, I'd be standing at the podium, sniffling in my silk handkerchief, lol. Also, I'm afraid of airplanes, too. :)

jaybird said...

Great answers Mark! I can really relate to a few of those. Especially the finishing college and hating to fly. Airplanes scare me too. Doesn't help that I dated an aeronautical engineer once who refused to fly. When I asked him why, he said because he designed them, he knew all the things that could go wrong on an airplane. GAH!! He freaked me out so bad- had to break up with the tool after that,lol.

And I love that you would switch with Indiana Jones! That's an awesome answer.
