Fitness Friday!

Since I forgot last week, I want to do another installment of The Healthy Writers Club...which is hosted by Shallee McArthur. The particulars of which can be found over at her awesome blog.

Exercise Update: To be honest, over the past few months my exercise regimen has slowed to a crawl with the fault lying squarely on my own shoulders. We had done a couple of "juice reboots/fasts" and they recommend not exerting yourself, too much, so I took that advice to heart....hehe. Anywho, I'm back on a weight routine and am even throwing in some cardio.

We have some decent equipment, so no excuses:

Culinary Lifestyle Change: (Because I hate the word "diet") We're still juicing...at least one veggie and one fruit a day. Sometimes, we'll throw in a fruit smoothie to mix things up a bit. Overall, though, we're doing pretty good at sticking to this. We've also cut out almost every sugary drink from our choices, mainly sticking with water, sometimes opting for a bit of sweet tea so things don't get too boring for the taste buds. We've also been using organic sugar, steering away from the processed, granulated, variety and substitutes like Splenda. I didn't like some of the things I had been reading about aspartame, so better safe than sorry.

My wife wanted to start a blog to help track our journey towards getting healthy, which I found a bit ironic because a). she doesn't like to write, and b). she doesn't like to read. In fact, she doesn't even read my blog....not that I'm really faulting her, that much, for it. :)

Anyway, I think it's a great idea to help motivate not only us, but maybe anyone else who happens to drop by. So, if you're interested, drop by and say "hi". We're calling it Don't Just Know....Do! because we know it's easy to know how to do something, the challenging part coming in actually getting it done.

Oh, and since it fits so nicely, this would also be a good post to remind everyone about the Get Healthy Blog Hop, (scroll down on the link for the info) which is happening this coming Wednesday, the 29th. Check it out and sign up!

So, how about you.....any fitness news or goals that you're striving for?

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday, Mark. I had quite the challenge this morning, getting my do walked at the park before the electrician arrived. We even did a bit of jogging around the lake to finish up in time. (I don't jog or run, so this was indeed something to celebrate on the fitness front.)

Good for you still juicing and fasting. I'm sure your body thanks you for it. Nice that you started a new blog with your wife. Off to check it out and see what else you're up to.

I got a little lazy with snacking late at night (and by late, I mean after eight o'clock) so cutting back on that. Otherwise still hitting the gym several times a week and drinking lots of water.
Guess you're all set for the Eat Healthy Blogfest next week, aren't you?

I use my treadmill to hang laundry to dry and then wonder why I'm chunky.

My husband is the same as your wife. The only way he knows what is on my blog is if one of the women he works with tells him. Oh well. We all have Alex! He's all the support a blogger needs, right?

I'll be checking out your wife's blog. I'm trying to get back into the exercise routine after a very difficult March and April, which I'll be posting about on the blog hop. See you then!

I hope to lose ten pounds this year but haven't been following a proper regimen to make it happen. Sorry flooded with hops already but I'll check out some posts next Wednesday. Best of luck easing back into your exercising and I'll check out your wife's blog.

I'm completely behind you on anxiety about these sugar replacements. They seem like the stuff guaranteed in a few years to have given a generation kidney failure or some other nightmare.

You've got a nice workout place! I'd be much heavier if not for my elliptical. Trying to push myself to two miles per day. Definitely need a towel at the end!

I like your workout stuff. I would totally use it if I had it... so I say anyways. Thanks for stopping by today, it means a lot to hear when someone else knows the woes of trying to be healthy and losing a few LB's.

@M.J.: Sounds like you've already got a good start to the day..way to go! My body does but, sometimes, my taste buds rebel :)

@Alex: Late night snacking is -definitely- something I need to work on. If not, then I really need to be stricter with exercising. Lots of water is great, too, and I'm ready for the bloghop! :)

@Elizabeth: I've been there, which is why we decided to put our gym equipment in one room (the laundry room) so we could forego that temptation to use it as a clothes rack :)

@S.P: Thanks for stopping by there and best of luck getting back on track with exercising...it's tough, I know.

@Sheena: It can be tough, which is why I prefer 'baby steps' to help me along :) Best of luck with your regimen, too.

@John: Yeah, I've read both pro and con about them, but I'll err on the side of caution in that respect. Thanks and I need to really work on my cardio. Sounds like you're doing it right, though :)

@Dani: Thank you and, yes, it can be tough...just know you're not alone...not by a long shot! Good luck :)

I've been looking forward to Alex's Blogfest next week just because it's made me a bit more conscious of my eating and workouts-- always something I have to be vigilant of, especially lately, it seems.

My significant other and I were just talking today about our need to get a treadmill and an elliptical. Of course we have the same conversation every few weeks and then don't do anything about it, so...

This is one I should join as I just started doing my cardie and weightlifting again.

Yeah dieting sucks, but a good change in the way we eat is something many people are in need of.

I think it's time I tried to lose some weight and do more excercise.
Of late have been a bit slack so I shall sit and think over the week=end my goals in that direction.

Diets don't work because they are temporary - any changes have to be permanent. People think I'm nuts because I don't eat chocolate, but it was my weakness. Eleven years later, I don't miss it and haven't craved it for years.

Of course, people think I'm nuts because I'm vegan, too.

Oh, you have an elliptical. I do mostly roadwork or treadmill because I'm a weather wimp.
I do fruit smoothies once in a while and have a big green salad almost every day for lunch or dinner.

I definitely could learn a few things from your blog, Mark. I've been so attached to this computer lately, I've forgone all exercising. I have to back to it, and soon. Get Healthy Blog sounds great!

Hi Mark .. Good for you .. and with that equipment you have no excuse do you ... I've been walking a great deal more, going to Pilates and exercise classes .. and eating much less ... so generally feel I'm moving towards the right road. Looking forward to reading all the posts on Wednesday ...

Fresh and healthy is all good - cheers to a continuing healthy weekend .. Hilary

I enjoyed your post. I've been trying to eat healthier and exercise more, and I'm not having the best of luck. LOL I can hear the treadmill calling my name right now... :)

Thanks for the Blitz last Monday. All of your comments really made my day.

Mark Means said...

@Amanda: Haha...I wish.., but thanks :)

@Julie: Same here and any reminder I can get to take care of myself is one I'm trying to heed.

@M.J.: LOL...hey, I know what you mean. The wife and I talked about getting something 'cardio oriented' (since we already had a weight machine) for a while until, finally, she said "Well, if I can find something for around $100.00, can I buy it?" I agreed and a week later she came home with the elliptical machine.

@Brandon: You should definitely sign up and, agreed, eating better is the cornerstone, in my opinion.

@Yvonne: You're not alone, trust me! :)

@Diane: Exactly! Which is why we never say "diet", but 'lifestyle change'. We both know that diets -never- work, at least in the long term, and only by changing your life habits can you see any long standing results. Very true.

@Susan: Sounds like you have a great start, so keep at it! :)

@Cathrina: I know what you mean! It's tough...especially as someone sitting all day...to get and stay active.

@Hilary: Thank you and same to you! It must be tough to eat healthy knowing all those great Brit recipes, so hats off to you :)

@Dana: LOL...it's tough and takes work, but I'm sure you can do it. Glad you enjoyed your blitz and was great to find your blog...I enjoy it :)

Hey Mark,

I'm the epitome of health. I have a regular stare at myself in one of my several full-length mirrors. Yep, and I think, wow, what an awesome dude!. Then I wake up.

A balanced diet and balanced exercise. All conducive to our mental and physical well being.

A blog hop? Grrrrrrr...!!! LOL

A peaceful long weekend to you and your loved ones.

Gary :)

@Gary: Haha, I've had that same conversation with myself, while standing in front of a mirror....then, I too, woke up! :) One day, I'll rope you into a blog hop....you wait and see! Have a great weekend, my friend :)

@Milo: Way to go and best of luck. Keeping up with it can, sometimes, be the hardest part :)

I think it's great you're trying to eat healthy. My family has been eating a lot more fruits and vegetables. When you eat nutritious food, you feel better!

As a gym instructor, I still find my home equipment is gathering a layer of dust. I have a set of dumbells - mostly recently used as a weight while Hubby was gluing two pieces of wood together.

My fitness goal - now and forever - is to be able to do a pull-up. A dodgy shoulder means this probably won't ever happen. Off to check out your wife's blog!

Mark Means said...

@Sherry: That's true, you do! I think eating healthy is the cornerstone of getting shape.

@Annalisa: LOL...I sure know what you mean and, you never know, you just might get that pull up...dodgy shoulder and all :)

Good job getting back on the cycle. I am all for healthy lifestyles, which is partly why I am putting blogging on the back-burner for a time. I might have to do the Get Healthy hop, though. We've just been going on more walks and hikes and trying to eat lots of fresh veggies, too. It's a good time of year to get back in shape.

Mark Means said...

@Shell: Thanks and what you guys are doing is a great beginning. The tough part comes, though, when we don't feel like exercising and have to push through, anyway :)

Good for you!! I think my main fitness goal is to simply stick to it. Exercise daily and make healthy choices when mealtime comes around. ~Angela
