NaNoWriMo....Day Five

Not much to report on day five. I'm keeping up with my daily word count and even have a small  minuscule cushion going, just in case. Said cushion isn't near as big as I'd like, but at least it's there and I'm fairly satisfied with it.

I'm starting to see postings on G+ of folks struggling. We all know it's bound to happen...I know it will happen to me. If you're reading this and struggling, it'll be o.k. This is just the gear up, things will get smoother, just hang in there. Don't forget to take time to do other, non writing related, things. Play that video game, surf the web, go to the beach, take a walk, cook, clean, stuff. If you want to use some of that time to plot and plan...all the better.

I'm very glad I decided to give this crazy NaNoWriMo thing a try. To be honest, I had my doubts that I'd even get out of the starting gate, but here it is, day five and I'm still on target and going strong. I've had some (very) minor characters start to shine and may get a bigger role than originally anticipated. I'm loosely sticking to my vague outline which will only last me until around chapter nine, then I'm flying blind. By then, though, I should have a pretty good handle on where the story is going and who's taking it there.

Well, it's late and I need to get to bed. Lots to do this weekend.

Maybe, though, I'll get to sneak some writing in here and there. =)

I'm trying to remember when the shine of NaNo started to wear off a bit last year...I think it was around 10k words, so Day 6? It is that terrible 10k mark - such a lot of words and yet so far from 50k.

What I'm trying to say is...if we make it past Day 6, we've hit a milestone of sorts. Oh, and the first weekend is a test, too. Good luck!

Thanks Jennifer and the same to you =) Here's to hoping we can get over that hump smoothly!

I'm a little behind still but I need less than 500 words to be caught up to today's goal so I hope I can make it. I started this NaNo with one win and one fail so I'm really hoping for another win.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Miri and good luck to you too. You're not that far behind so don't worry.

I'm sure you'll be 2-1 come December. =)

Yay for NaNo! I'm so happy to hear you're doing well at it. Keep going, yo. You got this.

Also, do you find the loose outline to be helpful? Or would a much more point on outline help out?

Hey, thank you very much =)

For me, I think the loose outline format is better suited for my writing style. My outlines go along the lines of:

Chapter One: So and so is introduced. This and this happen. Then this happens. This person gets shot, etc.

I leave things very open so that I can plug other ideas in, should they come to me while I'm writing. For NaNo, I didn't spend a lot of time on my outline. I only have up to, roughly, Chapter Nine, then I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

If I had a more concise story line and plot, a more detailed outline, more than likely, would have been better.

Thanks for the kind words :)
